Run Lola

In the film Run Lola Run, Tom Tykwer has used some visual and verbal techniques
Into make Lola an important character.
Lola is an important character because she is an active, fit, young lady. She is running
to save her lover, Manni. Either she would rob a bank, or heist a shop and get chased
by the police. The camera movement the director uses, for example, tracking is used
brilliantly to make the audience feel as though they are running with Lola. I also felt
that I was running with her, making Lola a very important character in the film, Run
Lola Run.

The second feature to making Lola as an important character is the fast paced techno
music. The upbeat, fast action pact music, shows Lola’s intensity and stress to get to where
she wants to get, this keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. For example, when
Lola is trying to get to Manni, the music is pumping hardcore, and when Lola and
Manni are running from the shop, the music turns from intense, to something nice and
soothing. So this second feature that was used, kept the audience pumping and feeling
energetic as I did with this techno-tic music that was used, making Lola an important
character.

The third feature used to make Lola an important character is colour.
Colour clearly shows Lola’s personality, appearance and emotions, in this film.
Lola is feisty, aggressive, assertive and colourful. This is shown by Lola’s vibrant red
hair. Lola’s hair stands out in the crowd a draws attention to her in any scene. Lola’s
love for Manni is shown by the red filter that is used in the scene when Lola and
Manni are in bed; it shows the love for each other as it’s an important scene in the
film. So this feature is very important because it shows appearance, emotions and
personality that Music and Camera Angles cannot.
The final feature the director has used to make Lola an important character is the
quality of film used. Whenever Lola is on scene the director has used high definition
film, this makes the scene appear vibrant, bright and full of life. The second quality of
film used is low definition; this is used whenever Lola is not on scene, this is an
excellent use of contrast by making other characters appear dull, boring and vague
but the second Lola comes back on scene The director immediately starts using the
high-definition film again. The director has used this technique very effectively to
show us that Lola is the most important character in the film even when she is not on
scene by making the other characters in the film appear boring. This use of changing
the quality of the film has made Lola a very important character.

The director had used these four visual and verbal features into making
Lola an important character in the film, Run Lola Run.Run Lola Run

Peter talks about the film , and the characters of the film as well .
He first describes Lola, played by Franka Potente, as a lean machine
and a look of a champion sprinter .
He also mentioned how he liked how the director used the Camera Angles/Shots.
